Phooey, my posting went South...so starting over...Looking back at other census, the names may also be as French. The family is R. C. ( Catholic )
Sorry Grub, wish he knew more about the locale. The family were ferrymen / farmers / hunters / woodsmen. Both parents were metis... and Lizzie was known to be born Sweetgrass. Apparently Josie might be "Rosie", so another family interpretation of that was Rosalie. Aye-Yi-Yi!
Lizzie might be down as Elize...Angus might be called Antoine, as he is also listed as a much longer name than Angus in the 1911 but the online image is hardly legible. The other brother was born Joseph, sorry, have changed original. He went by John later. both boys born N.W.T. ( Sask.)
Peter's occupation in 1911 was teamster. He was an excellent horseman, but he also was a lumberjack which may have been the attraction to B.C.
Peter (Pierre) was born Manitoba 1873
Matilda ( Mathilde) was born Saskatchewan ( N.W.T.) 1874
I only just now found her on the 1881 Canada census as Larkeson, which was written Farkeson & mistranscribed.
If McDougall, MacDougall, McDougal, etc. has been grossly phonetically written, it will be a tough find.
Don't wreck your eyes searching, though.
The exciting thing about finding the 1881 is that the family of "Farkesons" are down as Irish...which could explain the phonetics...and Mathilde looks to repeat so in 1911! Peter is of Scottish descent.
