Thank you to you all for taking the time to reply to my posting.

I was hoping that if I could obtain his army records it may just have the address of where he was living at the time and maybe give me some more information on the family. I think I will take the advice and put a posting on the Armed forces section to see if anyone can point me in the right direction as to where I can apply for Williams army record

I do realise that finding my Irish ancestors will not be easy, but its something that I would love to be able to do.

Thank you all again

Sarah

I AM SO HAPPY :) :) :)
Thank you to everyone, Guess what, Ive just found him!!!

I went onto the Armed forces board and started to read other posts. one of which was titled royal artillery records, on one of the replies someone had said that Find my past had released some army records.. as I had a few  credits left  I thought i would have a look and BINGO out of 4 records for 'William Ryan' I found my great grandfather's records.. Must be the luck of the Irish  ;)

I know its definitely him as it shows his wife as Elizabeth Paul (who was my great grandmother) and their marriage on Jersey.
So now i know he came from Scariff and hopefully I will be able to find out more about my Irish ancestry.

A huge thank you to everyone
and it just goes to show that you should never give up!
kind regards
Sarah

based on the birthplace of Scariff, then this is the most likely match for his birth on the irish Civil Index :

 Name: William Ryan
 Registration district: Scarriff
 Record type: Birth
 Year: 1865
 Volume: 4 / Page: 507

(This birth does not seem to be listed on IGI.)
He is the only William Ryan born in that registration district close to 1867. See Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon His birth is just after civil registration started (1864), and if he was the first-born, and you are lucky twice... you might just find his parents marriage in the previous year when registration started.

Hi Sarah,

I just signed up on RootsChat today and saw your name under Tippett. My name is Steve Tippett and I live in the U.S. I have traced my ancestry to a Thomas Tippett born in 1794. I believe he was born in Wales. He married a Katherine Mattingly from Kent, England.

I teach at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and I will be traveling to Dublin on a study abroad trip for the University later this month. I will return next year with more time and would like to ferry to Wales if indeed that is where my family comes from. Can you provide any assistance?

Gratefully,

Steve Tippett

Hi Steve

Im sorry but I cant be of much help. The Tippetts in my tree all come from a small village inbetween Bath and Bristol. There is no connection to Kent or Wales.
However I did have a look on www.familysearch.org and I did find what I believe to be Katherines baptism, her father is shown as Harrison Mattingly ?, Apart from that I couldnt find anything else. Im sorry I couldnt be of any more help.
I hope you enjoy your trip to Dublin, I had a great time when I went there.
good luck with your search

Sarah

Hi Sarah. Here is some information that you may have already come across on the internet. It's regarding William Ryan. Unfortunately it hasn't got any information regarding his background but does have some on your great grandmother.

Hi Sarah.

Yes I am. Amelia Ryan is my great grandmother i believe.

My grandfather is Geraldo Donnarumma son of Carlo who was married to Amelia as far as I am aware from the web page I posted. It would be great to know if you had any information regarding William? As he would be my great great grandfather!

Many thanks,

Stephen.
