I have had no results using the NRS site but have burned plenty of credits on the Scotlands People site.
Thanks

If you go into the Scottish archives site and search the catalogue the reference you want is CH3/350 and there seem to be records now housed in the Borders.

The researcher at Hawick checked records CH3/350/3 Parish of Jedburgh Associate Burgher Register of Baptisms, 1737-1839 which contained plenty of Reids but no obvious connections. She suggested that the Free Church records CH3/1469/1-6 may include relatives but they do not hold a copy, and I haven't been able to find these yet. I'm hoping that someone out there might have a family bible.
Thanks again

The archives website says they start at 1878 so wouldn't help you much unfortunately.

Frustrating though isn't it.

There is or was a gravestone at Jedburgh Abbey.   One side was badly flaked and only John    ---   1857 aged -- could be read.  However the back of the same stone read:   George Turner late Baillie in Jedburgh.  Janet Paterson his wife, Margaret, Elizabeth, Jean his daughters.   John Reid husband of said Jean, George their infant son and their sons George and Andrew Reid.   No dates or ages given.
This is from a transcription done about the 1950s.

That looks promising!  I only managed to look at 5 Reid trees today and none of them were from the Jed area.

Thanks to both,
The heritage hub supplied me with the transcription of the gravestone. Its a possible connection but not the only one they supplied me with.

I have found marriage and death records for Margaret (Johns Daughter). She was married to James Brown, Mason 16/07/1834 by the Rev Wm Nicol, Jedburgh.
She died 09/06/1882 at 10 Wellington Street, Wilton. She had children James and Ann.
I have been unable to find any trace of her brother John Reid born 11/05/1806.

The possible grave for John 1771 at Jedburgh Abbey looks like it belongs to his maternal grandparents. George Turner late Baillie of Jedburgh and his wife Janet Patterson. No dates were given on their side of the stone but buried with them are their daughter Jean and her husband John Reid. Does anyone have any knowledge of George Turner? John Reid born 1746 parents were John Reid and probably Elizabeth Turnbull born around 1720. Any help or info appreciated.
