Drews from Islington Workhouse

Hi, 

I am trying to trace a Rose Ann Drew who was baptised alongside her twin brother William Drew 5 July 1833 at St Mary's, Islington.  Their mother was Martha Drew, abode: Workhouse,   Quality, Trade or Profession: Poor.

I know that in 1858 Roseanna married Thomas Freemantle (from Easton, Hants) and they lived for many years in Ecchinswell, Hampshire.

Roseanna lived to be 100 years old, and I have a newspaper cutting of this event.  However, I would like to know a little bit more about her before she came to Hampshire, but cannot find her on the 1841 or 1851 census, I just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

I did find a criminal record for a Rose Ann Drew, aged 13 in Reading 1846, she was imprisoned for 1 month for Larceny but I don't know how to ascertain if this is the same person.  I also found a couple of possibles for her brother William in the 1841 census (Brixton Goal School and a school in Buckingham), but no clues on Roseanna or her mother Martha.

I would really appreciate any help or advice on this one, as she seemed to have been a very interesting lady.

It's some time back that you posted your message re Rose Ann DREW! I have just begun researching my wife's family history; she is a great granddaughter of Rose Ann. I note that you mention a newspaper report of her 100th birthday; that would be interesting to me! It rather looks as if Rose Ann may have been illegitimate (a quaint concept today!) since there is no record of father at her baptism. We are happy to exchange information if it might be of interest.

Hi Peter,

I have a lot more information on Roseanna Drew since I last posted about her.  If you would like to email me I am happy to share.  What line does your wife decend from?  I am descended from Roseanna's son George Freemantle.

As stated by Jonw65, Rosanna's father was noted as William Rolls.  Her mother Martha also had other illegitimate children and spent her whole life in and out of workhouses.  Fortunately, Rosanna managed to make a better life for herself.
