Ballybay -Weslyan Methodist
« on: Friday 26 March 10 06:51 GMT (UK) »
I am tracing my family IRWIN.
Someone has found they came from Annaseene, Ballybay, County Monaghan.

I have ordered the FHL microfilm but I could not find my family.

Samuel Irwin was born on May 13th, 1828 he married in Canada in 1861. There he said his parents were John Irwin and Elizabeth HAMILTON.
In Canada he raised his family as Weslyan Methodists (maybe he followed his wifes' religion or it was his own)

I believe I found him arriving in New York in 1846 on the ship United Kingdom with two other Irwins Robert and Thomas.

A previous researcher had listed a Francis Irwin on IGI who seemed to have the same parents and was from the same place.

I saw on the 1846 Slaters Commercial directory that there was a John Irwin who was in the alcohol business on Market Street.

Would anyone have knowledge of this John Irwin and his wife Elizabeth Hamilton and their children?

There are 1851 townlands in Monaghan... no Annaseene!

Annaseeragh. Aghnaskea, Aghnaskew, Agheeshal, but there's no Annaseene to be seen!

Hi, thanks for the help,
I guess I spelled it wrong.

Annanese - is that more correct?
I do not know if this is a typo, but I have come across-
Acres,
Balli Bay
Ballybay
Bellybay
Corlea, Castleblaney
Dungiven, Londenderry

for births and baptisms of children of John Irwin and u/k Hamilton (which in Samuel Irwins marriage is Elizabeth Hamilton).

Also, According to the information thrru IGI Elizabeth Hamiltons parents are Samuel and Elizabeth nee Harper.

I am not receiving a response to my email request from this person who did all the research. The email never came back to me, so I do not know if the email address is current.

Annaneese would be the spelling, wasn't sure what townland you were after. Harper has been well researched by others so maybe a Harper researcher might have more information.

Annaneese townland is in Ballybay civil parish (Castleblayney Poor Law Union).

There are 5 townlands called Corlea in Co. Monaghan but none of them are in Ballybay Parish (or Castleblayney P.L.U.).

Dungiven, Co. Londonderry is not near Monaghan border.

I culdn't find any I.G.I. reference for this-
Also, According to the information thrru IGI Elizabeth Hamiltons parents are Samuel and Elizabeth nee Harper.

Thanks for your help,

I had someone help me thru LDS and maybe they can go places I am not able to.

for John Irwin I have PID:M8Z6-LGD as well as PID: 2CY3-S1P
for 'x' Hamilton I have PID:273H-7JW

for 'X' Hamiltons parents I have
Samuel PID:KL1V-B7Y
Elizabeth Harper PID:KL1V-BC6

and I can go on. It appears that this family has had LDS Ordinances.
Maybe these are the ordinance numbers. Maybe ordinance  numbers belong to a persons family tree chart or something else.

Sounds as though the LDS details you've been given are submitted records which may not be accurate- you need to verify it rather than just accepting it.

I am wondering, since I could not find this couple John and Elizabeth nee Hamiltons marriage or christening of children when I ordered microfilm for Ballybay, what else might I do.
There was a John Irwin who was in the alcohol business in the 1846 Slaters Commercial Directory, there is a Weslyan Methodist church there (but there seems to be no microfilm for it), I am not receiving a reply yet from the person who has done this research before me, I am not always able to have the person who initially help to continue to do so, especially if this information is not on the general IGI information board to the general public.
what is the wise way to go about this?
How do I take advantage of the interest you are showing?
