Docker/Dockery - County Roscommon

Hi all!

I am hoping someone can help with my ancestors!!
I have found census info that says my ancestors were born in County Roscommon in what looks like Bally Brother/Brothan....we think it might be Bally Broghan, any other ideas would be welcome!

Does anyone have access to records that could help track my ancestors??

They were:
John Dockery born about 1801 and his wife Jane (Haden) born about 1810.  They first show up on the 1841 census with children, it says the children were born in Birmingham where they were living, the eldest child shown was born about 1827.  I have not been able to find a marriage record yet (we think they were catholic as my Great Nan was catholic, so no record).

If anyone has any resources to maybe check records in that area or have any hints I would really appreciate some help!  Would love to trace their roots!!

I can't see your family in 1841 - are they mistranscribed?

Looking at Irish townlands http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/ there are these possibilities:

Ballyboughan; Ballybrogan and Ballybroghan (at least).

Looking at Griffiths Valuation (1850s generally) http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php or http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_start.php

Ballybroghan- Kilcooley Civil Parish
There are some Dockerys -(not Ballybroghan but in same parish) and nearest to Haden is Havaughan and similar names.

Ballybrogan -St Johns Civil parish
Dogherty name

Ballyboughan Roscommon civil parish
Doherty and Hayden

Thanks for your message!!  The 1841 census has them as Dockery and on the 1851 is where it says Bally Brothan/Brother.

I have not had chance to look at the sites you posted, will hopefully get round to it over the next few days....again, thanks for your help!

There are at least some 45 DOCKERY currently residing in county Roscommon in the towns
of Boyle, Castlerea, Elphin and one in Kiltoom.

I too have Dockery Ancestors - from Kilmore, Co. Roscommon. If anyone is attached to this line I would love to hear from you.
My ggg grandfther was Hugh Dockery (c1800-1861) who was married to Joan Simpson (c1800-1881). They had at least 7 children – John, James, Maria Jane (my gg grandmother), Hubert Thomas, Brigid Catherine, Sarah. I have traced the lineages of Maria, Sarah and Catherine.
Hugh ran a shop that incorporated a Post Office, a grocery, and a pub. He was also a Prebendary Magistrate and a Clerk of the Petty Sessions.
His house still stands and is now a grade II listed thatched cottage in Kilmore. I visited there last weekend with my Dad and his first cousin.

If anyone has any Hugh’s in their line we are probably related.
And has anyone done any DNA testing (eg Family Finder with FTDNA or Relative Finder with 23andMe)? If so we should check for any matches.
