emmigration of grandfather
« on: Sunday 16 May 04 19:49 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for emmigration records for my grandfather, Edward Rutter.  He was born in 1864 in Lincolnshire and emigrated via Glascow, Scotland. He reached Ellis Island in 1901.
       Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Waralan
I'm not exactly sure what it is you need to know.
On Ellis Island site, there is an Edward Rutter, age 30, who arrived in 1896, via Glasgow.  Did not see any arriving in 1901.
You can search this site for free.

grub,
         Thanks for your reply.
As you will note that Edward Rutter came on the ship The California and was listed as an American Citizen.
Census records show my grandfather originally came in 184, at the age of 20, with his widowed mother, and some brothers.
As I am talking to you, I am looking at the final naturalization paper of my grandfather in Michigan in 1892.
Thus, I am wondering if after he was naturalized if he didn't go back to England for a visit.

Hopka,
My grandfather and his mother Eliza Rutter entered New York harbor on board the ship Republic on Oct. 10, 1884.  That would make him 21.
