Marriage of William Woodcock and Ann Haworth
« on: Tuesday 30 March 10 22:09 BST (UK) »
Can anyone decipher Ann's father's name and occupation?  I know William and his father John were both Engineers (in the coal mine.)  Also, can anyone decipher Ann's residence?  The wedding took place in the Parish Church of Blackburn.
Thanks!
Bridget

Maybe Fredk (frederick) for Dad.

Is this a GRO copy or the church copy?
One may be clearer than the other if you get desperate.

I'm hoping it's Richd!  I never would have come up with Agent, but I think you could be right.

Hi

Date of their marraige Sept 1841

Phone Blackburn Library and ask them to send a copy of the Parish marriage entry in the church register at over Darwen. The cost will be small! pence and postage or give the bride Dad and both occupations over the phone.

Think these could well  be the Bapts

Baptisms: 12 Mar 1820 Darwen Chapel (Now St James), Darwen, Lancashire, England
William Woodcock - Son of John Woodcock & Hannah
    Abode: Over Darwen
    Occupation: Collier
    Baptised by: Hy Dunderdale
    Register: Baptisms 1820 - 1823 BT, Entry 576

Baptisms: 8 Feb 1824 St Mary the Virgin, Blackburn, Lancashire, England
Anne Haworth - Daughter of Richard Haworth & Sarah
    Abode: Blackburn
    Occupation: Weaver
    Baptised by: R. Garnet
    Register: Baptisms 1822 - 1828, Page 66, Entry 527

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

I think that is William's baptism, but I think this is probably Ann's.  She married as Ann Haworth, but throughout the later censuses she is Hannah Woodcock.  (This evening I found her in the 1841 Census, as Ann Haworth, living with a John and Betty Duxbury.  I then searched the BMD and found that a Betty Haworth had married a John Duxbury in 1839.  I haven't yet found Richard Haworth's death, but he and Betty Cooper married 19 May 1816 in Blackburn.)

Baptisms: 27 May 1821 Darwen Chapel (Now St James), Darwen, Lancashire, England
Hannah Haworth - Dau of Richard Haworth & Betty
    Abode: Eccleshill
    Occupation: Collier
    Baptised by: Hy Dunderdale
    Register: Baptisms 1820 - 1823 BT, Entry 665

Hi Bridge,
You could right as Hannah but is a common name round Lancashire Howorth or Haworth also Howith. Working on the  deaths is the best way pre 1837 Bapts and marriages for a gravestone as they can Identify the right spouse and other info on the MI. It is possible there could be Obituaries as well as some newspapers had Birth-Marr's and deaths as far back as 1830
(Death Certs give little.)

Again Blackburn Library and FHS your best options

This link (Nothing to do with your family names but can give you ideas what to look for)
