Hi b b,

I didn't realise that originally Needingworth was in Hunts, after looking up Needingworth in a UK Road Atlas and seeing it in Cambridgeshire, I thought it was simply a case of that part of Cambridgeshire being serviced by St Ives for some administrative reason.

Mary Ann Moody has been very vague about her place of birth, in the original 1871 census return for West Ham her birth place was written as Cambridgeshire St Ives and then in another hand Hunts was added.

In the free BMD her birth place as St Levan Cambridge, I put a query on the Cambridgeshire board asking for help to locate that place and you b b were one of the people who kindly helped with that problem, ie it didn't exist!

In another reference her birthplace was given as Oxford, Oxford.

I'm a bit dismayed to learn that Hunts is not well represented on the IGI, I use the IGI quite a bit to, hopefully, gain clues, I'll have to take a look at the Hunts board and see what resources are available.  Haven't done so before because nearly all my ancestors were born in my home county Essex, the only exceptions being one line from Yorkshire and one line from Norfolk.

Thanks again for your help.

A modern, ie post 1974, road map won't show Hunts at all as the county disappeared in that year. So all places in what was Hunts now show as being in Cambs

A good site to get parish information is http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/  which puts parishes in their historical counties, not the modern administrative areas

Hi David,

I didn't realise that Huntingdonshire no longer existed, probably because I moved to Australia that year, amazing isn't it, what people get up to the minute your back is turned  :o
