Anyone researching Thurston and Moody families?
« on: Friday 02 April 10 00:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,

A couple of my wife's ancestors were Thomas Thurston and Sarah Moody who married 5 March 1839 at Holywell cum Needingworth.  That info is from the IGI but the Free BMD index has them marrying in the March quarter, 1839 St Ives (cert sent for), which I think validates the IGI info.

I have looked around but there doesn't appear to be much in the way of Huntingdonshire research I can do from Australia, the IGI looks to be a barren desert for Huntingdon research..

My hope is that someone else is researching those families and might be able to provide details or clues.

Regards.

If you have specific queries just post them. Whilst the IGI coverage is poor (I've seen a figure quoted of less than 15% of parishes are included on the IGI) more parishes are covered on the BVRI. Marriages up to 1837 are complete on Hunts Marriage Index, and burials are reasonably well covered on the NBI, so the position is not as bad as it may appear on the face of it. But where a parish register hasn't been filmed by the LDS the only place to get information is from Huntingdon Records Office, for which a charge is made if you can't get there in person.

Hi Carole & David,

Thanks for the advice David nice to see that the situation is not as bad as I imagined.

Carole, thanks for the IGI reference, I have sent for the marriage certificate for Thomas Thurston and Sarah Moody so that will hopefully confirm the fathers of the couple, also of course their IGI marriage.

You know I still want to call Sarah Moody, Sarah Goody, it's strange because I don't have any Goody in my tree (yet), nor June's, I do have Gooding (Essex) but I haven't looked at them for some while.

Thanks Carole,

At the moment I'm searching the IGI for the Moody clan at  Holywell, I found one other a Jane Moody bap the same date as Sarah, 5 Sep 1819.

Also found 6 children of William and Elizabeth Moody, same place 1788 to 1833,  they also had a Jane so the two families are most likely related.  Plus one child of a William and Edith and one of William and Esther, also a William Charles Moody of John & Sarah 1850.

No doubt they will all fall into place at some time.

Regards.
