Hi heathgirl,

I can find a Josef Lipkovics coming to Canada in 1929, he is going to his sisters at Stockholm, SK. Is this the Lipkovics family you are seeking?
There is also another gentleman by the name of Stefen Legeny going to his brothers at Stockholm.

Some sites in case you don't have them.

www.canada411.ca
has only 9 Lipkovits all listed in BC

www.deathindexes.com/canada.html
BC archives has deaths for
Emillie Lipkovits, March 9, 1958, Oliver, age 50
Antoinette G Lipkovits, Jan 13, 1974, Kelowna, age 41
Thomas Lipkovits, Feb. 12, 1981, Kelowna, age 81
Ernest Lipkovits, June 2, 1989, Penticton, age 61
Lucille Lipkovits, Apr 27, 1988, Oliver, age 59
Istvan Lipkovics, Dec 30, 1985, Comox, age 70

Anna Lipkewich, Feb 3, 1942, Vancouver, age 39
Steve Lipkewich, Jan 31, 1974, Vancouver, age 75

Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver, BC has
Anna Lipkewich, Feb 3, 1942
Steve Lipkewich, Feb 4, 1974

I couldn't find any Lipkovics or Lipkovits or alternate spelling on the 1911 census on automated genealogy. Someone else may have better luck with another census site.

I checked for the name Lipkovics and Lipkovits on passenger lists and found a number of them on the Ellis Island site so you may want to check it out.

Judging from the ages, they likely weren't here for the censuses, unless those in B.C. were all second generation Canadians? They are not in Stockholm town or district in 1906 ( Assiniboia East District, Subdistrict 36 )
and in 1911 if there are any there it will be hard to find them. There are thousands of illegible surnames in the district.
If you know of a forename of a person who may have been there before the 1911 we may be able to find something

Saltcoats surnames in 1911 http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/DistrictIndex.jsp?id=215&letter=L
( also see ? at end of alphabet listing )
For just Stockholm & area : http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test17.jsp?sdid=4605
and no land grants http://www.saskhomesteads.com/search.asp

To add to above list there was also a death in Oliver, Jan 21, 1964 for a John Lipkovitz age 59

Dear Lisa,
I am sure the one you found for Stockholm is the one I am seeking. More interesting, is the fact that he went to sisters.
Please send any more information you have.

Please send any more information you have.

Perhaps you could also add some information to your query.  JJ asked if you could supply any Christian names that would help in searching records.  You must have an idea of some names if you know the family ended up in BC.

Regarding my post above and your PM, Oliver, Penticton and Kelowna are all in the Okanagan Valley of BC. Some of the Lipkovits showing on canada 411 are living in Kelowna. If you think some of these could be your family, you may want to contact them for more information.
