It looks like Henry Onken died in London in 1918 aged 82, so where was he?
I think I have found his parents and siblings in 1851, no sign of Henry.

Henry Onken b. 1836 Middlesex or so he says in 1871 but in 1861 he would have had to be in Austrailia for his children to be born Katherine (kate) and Henry (Henry Sameul)
henry S married 1881 and dies 1918

other children Jane, Elizabeth, Grace and william
his wife Elizabeth was born Scotland so they could have married there

in 1851 there is Georeg Onken b. 1836 Middlesex in whitechapel s/o Charles & elizth (sister Julia brother Charles)

now overseas in USA we find in 1900 by coincidence Henry Onken with dau. Grace (same age as ours) although Henry is a little younger, with daughter Maggie Wahlent but they all say born Germany, it is possible this is Henrich Onken who eimgrated earlier but on the census page this says Henry Onken emigrated in 1891 also son of Henry Swithert ???

posts crossed so Henry Samuel who m. in 1881 could be Henry senior and not Henry jnr.

Looking at the Onkens there are 3 marriages for the children.
Jenny in 1887 to George
Elizabeth in August 1891 in Lambeth ( she is a cook)
Alfred Sydney ( transcribed as Lydney) in 1903 in Bermondsey ( he is a farrier)
So do either of those ( we know about Jenny) appear on a census?

1891 Elizabeth is a cook at a pub in Hammersmith.
RG12; Piece: 39; Folio 94; Page 9; It is noted that she is deaf.
So why did she go to Lambeth to marry in August 1891, where there any more family there?

Going back to 1881 I can find Kate and Henry jnr.
Kate is a kitchen maid in London
RG11; Piece: 96; Folio: 117; Page: 40
Henry jnr is a brass finisher boarding in Islington
RG11;Piece: 239; Folio: 79; Page: 38

So had the rest of the family left the country again?
Did they flit back and forth?
Or is their name so badly mangled we can't pick it up at the moment?

I've had no more luck with the Onkens - I've searched under Onk* Onck* and Ouk* but there could be other possibilities. It appears to be a German name and  a Johann Gerhard Oncken a minister  flits quite a bit between here and Germany from 1838 to 1851.

Age is younger than he gives in 1871 but could this be Henry senior in 1841?

Union St Liverpool
Chas Onkin 30 Boarding house keeper F
Mrs C Onkin 24 No
George Onkin 5 No
Henry Onkin 9mo No
Ho107/556/19/6 Pg4

Interestingly a Carl Oncken merchant arrives in Leith in 1858 - which may put the above family in Scotland at the right time for Henry to meet Elizabeth if Carl and Chas are the same person
