Hi Luc

I've moved your thread from the Resources board - you have a lot of territory here, so it was hard to know where to place it!

It seems to me that you might be best looking for the emigration record first (have you done that?)  Did the whole family emigrate, or just Douglas?

I will leave you to the experts ...

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

with a relatively common surname and no date or place of birth it's going to be very difficult to start searching for birth of a John/Jack Hoey in Ireland. Maybe the place to start would be Canadian records (census/marriage details etc) to establish his year of birth, and possible place of origin ?

:) Hi Shane , you're right ,
I thought that Hoey was rather an unusual name n , (I got J.W.D Hoey 's death cert from Canada)
I have first to search on the Canadian site ,than I' ll get back
Kind regards
Luc

Hoey is a very common Irish surname so you will need more information to find any family connections in Ireland. Searching for 'John Hoey' in civil index (births, deaths, marriages) in Ireland reveals 604 records and checking 1911 census for the same name shows 120 in Ireland at that time (of course it is possible that JWD's father had left Ireland before 1911).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

The Canadian Census site for 1911 doesn't appear to have any Hoey's or McQueen's that might be of interest, I may be wrong. It might be worth having a look at it on
http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html
there are links to other sites that might be of use.

The CWGC site at
http://www.cwgc.org/
shows that he was the "Son of John and Margaret Hoey, of Kelso, Saskatchewan, Canada"
Might it be worth trying to see if any of the Hoey's listed in the in Saskatchewan, Phone Book might be able to help?

Just after I posted this msg I had a look on Cyndi's List under Canada, then Saskatchewan and landed on the
Saskatchewan Genealogy Society's site where it looks as if the parents of James William are shown
http://saskgenealogy.com/databases/burialindex/nm_BurialSearch.aspx

Perhaps an email to them asking for further details, at least age at death for John/Jack would help in finding an approximate year of birth for him, it may also show that he was a native of ?? in Ireland. The same applies for Margaret A.

Best of luck
