Efenechtyd Marriage Look up please
« on: Saturday 10 April 10 22:31 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a marriage between David Davies and a Catherine? , (both as far as I know are of Efenechtyd Parish),  possibly between 1820-1823. their first child Ellis Davies was born in 1823, his sister, my 3xgreat grandmother was born in 1828.

Many thanks
Regards

Hello Nerys, I'll have a look for the marriage details :) do you have a name for your 3xgreat grandmother born 1828?

Paul.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the look up. my 3xGgrandmother's name was Hannah Davies, I think there were several children all from Efenechtyd. You might be able to help me with another quandry  ??? Hannah married a William BLOOR who is buried with his son in Efenechtyd Churchyard. Hannah died in the workhouse, with master of the workhouse being the informant on death certificate. What are the possibilities of Hannah also being buried in Efenechtyd, but in a pauper's grave? There is no mention of her on the headstone. Is this something I would need to get in touch with a warden of the Church perhaps?

Hi Nerys,

The only Marriage I could see around that time for a David Davies was to an Anne Jones in 1818.

I did find these baptisms for the children of David & Catherine Davies.
March 23 1823. Ellis. Abode, Cefn mawr. Fathers Occ, Labourer.
Aug 14 1825. Anne.    """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
April 1 1828. Hannah.   """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
May 15 1831. Martha.    """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Anyother Idea where they might have married?

Paul.

Hi Paul,
That's great, thank you for those dates and names, the dwelling name is interesting too. I have no idea where else they could have married, though as far as I know David and Catherine aren't buried in Efenechtyd, which might be a clue in itself. I couldn't find them on the 1851 or 1861 census, so am assuming they're missing. Was Rhiw Chapel built at that time? I know of at least one Blore being buried in the Cemetery there, if so, would that come under Ruthin district? I'm going to be visiting my family in August, so looks like I'll have a long list of 'to do's whilst I'm there.
Many thanks for all your time, it's very much appreciated.

Just a thought, if David Davies had been married before would it make a difference where he would have been allowed to re-marry? If it is the same David Davies who married Anne Jones in 1818 as mine who married Catherine, Anne must have obviously died, then I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem with another Church wedding. Just trying to cover all avenues.

I would have thought they baptised the children in the same church they married in :-\
I'll check the details of David & Ann's marriage, just in case

I forgot to say, I didn't have time to look in the burial records :(
I'll have a look for Hannah & Ann next time :)

Paul.

My mam has looked through the census again on Ancestry for Catherine Davies and has found her on the 1851. Her place of birth was noted as Bettws, Merioneth, which I assume is Bettws GG and not Efenechtyd as was indicated on the 1841 census, hence the problem with finding their marriage maybe. I'm not too familiar with the distances, is Efenectyd quite a way out from Bettws?
Many thanks
Best wishes
