Hi Timeside,

Was Catherine the daughter of William Patterson and Catherine Anderson? They married 1835 at the Stockbridge Associate Session Church in Co'burnspath.

None of the children are registered in the Church of Scotland records at SP ... I suggest they could be included in the Dunbar Associate Burgher Church rolls; the baptismal register beginning in 1846. These are held at the National Archives in Edinburgh.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have no information on Catherine's Parents at present. Your suggestion seems a possibility. I pick Catherine up on her marriage to my 3xGranfather  in Grimsby on Christmas Day 1865.

The above entries are what I went on for the marriage in Co'burnspath. :)

I wonder if Ellen was a step-mother to Catherine. Does she appear on census records with Catherine and husband?

Hume, Merryhow, I have just re started researching after a 10 year rest! I have re-checked my data and realised I had imported some incorrect data from a contributor. The family is :- William Paterson & Catherine Anderson M 1835. Children (7)
Agnes 1835 Cockburnspath
Elizabeth 1838 Cockburnspath
Helen 1840 Dunbar
Phillis 1844 Dunbar
Margaret 1846 Dunbar
Catherine 1847 Dunbar
George 1850 Dunbar

Dates are About.

Catherine Jnr is my main interest. Quite a woman.

It would appear the family moved into Grimsby cica 1862. Census returns and marriage certificates use PATTERSON.

Ellen & other appearing in Grimsby census could well be related family members.

Thank you for the information, most helpful.
