James Lamb and Janet Ritchie
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 18:53 BST (UK) »
Can anyone out there help me? According to every tree I find James Lamb born 1838, son of James Lamb and Ann Davidson married Janet Ritchie. According to the IGI and Janet's death certificate she was the daughter of George Ritchie and Janet Reid, and born 1824, this makes her 27 and James 13 when they married in 1851. This does not seem right. Janet also had a daughter Catherine, by Peter Davidson in 1844 who was living with them according to the 1861 census. All the census say that James was 5 years older than Janet. James death certificate says his parents were Robert Lamb and Ann Creghton? and he was born around 1818 . I can not find any trace of Robert and Ann or any James born 1818-19.  If anyone has any knowledge of this family I would appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks Mim

Hi Mim

Could Robert Lamb's wife's name be Crighton.

If you do a Parent search on IGI using Robert Lamb and Ann Crighton you get the Following:
Janet
Ann
Catherine
May
All in the time frame that you are looking at

I checked the IGI out but there is no mention of a son James. Also the census say he was born in Liff Perthshire. He had 2 sons whose middle names were Crichton so I guess there are various spellings.

Yes Bruce so have I. After spending a small sum on Scotlands people and a transcription error on Ancestory that led me in the wrong direction, I am starting all over again. Thank goodness I enjoy doing this.
