Question re Sands directories NSW COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 15 April 10 21:33 BST (UK) »
Could you please advise what information is needed to look up the Sands directories from 1880 through to around 1930. ( Separate lines not the same person)

Can you search for a name if you just have an address?
Can you search for an address if you just have a name?

Thanks

No, I don't think so. Dunlop and Clarke was a biggish business back in the day I think. My William was a seaman/sailor and Victoria Terrace is quite a way off.
THank you though.

Thank you

2 Jenkins St in 1880 was a brick and stone house with shingled roof, 2 floors, 3 rooms.  The owner/landlord was William Jacques who also owned No. 4 and No. 6 Jenkins St.  In 1880 the occupier was John Crowley. John Crowley was also there back in 1877.  In 1877 there's a William A Clark at 39 Clarence St  ;)

In 1880 there was a William Clark as the occupier at 3 Cumberland Street, this was a brick & stone house, with a shingled roof, 1 floor and 4 rooms.  The building's agent was T B Dearin.

2 Jenkins St in 1891 was occupied by a C Searson, and the owner/landlord was T Hennessy.

EDIT TO ADD By 1903 the lass born in 1879 was old enough to enrol to vote  ;)

hmm interesting. Possible, given the three houses in a row were owned by the same person that they were let out as required.
The only information I have is that this is where Keziah Clark was born in 1879. Witnesses are Mrs Clark and Mrs Williamson - probably the midwife. The father's name is given as William Clark.

Is there any way of looking up if a Keziah and William Clark were in the same residence at any time e.g the ones at Cumberland and Clarence streets?

Hi Kaths2010

Do you have Keziah Clark's address as at around say 1903 ?  If she was in NSW she may well be on the electoral roll, I have access to the 1903 roll, but not keyword searchable, so if you have general idea of the district for her I will try to find further info.

Hi troods, its on the RChat NSW Resources Board, and there's so many favourites of mine there  ;)

Cheers,  JM

edit to add by 1903 Keziah Clark's daughter was also old enough to enrol to vote  ;)
