George BEATS c.1864 (Belfast)
« on: Thursday 15 April 10 22:18 BST (UK) »
Could anyone help me with the brickwall I have hit searching for birth information on my great grandfather? In military sign up papers 1883 he stated  19 yrs old Presbyterian  born in Belfast, Antrim. Mother Nancy Beats of Mill Quarter, Ballyscullion Grange. Father John Beats  licensed victualler .  A search at  GRONI 1864 - 1868 turned up nothing, nor searching records in England, Wales or Scotland. The rest of his life is  well documented.
The only possible  lead I  I have found is  John BATES in Griffiths valuation for Mill Quarter which could be John Beats (would sound like that I think) but I can't find any birth,  or parents' marriage for any of them on the LDS pilot and don't really know where to go next except  Presbyterian records?  Would be v grateful if anyone has anything at all which could provide a lead

Thanks for looking BallyaltikilliganG, I appreciate it.  Unfortunately when George joined the Scots Guards he never went back to Antrim - I have him on all post 1891 English censuses.
