McHugh - Kilglass, Roscommon

I need help finding the parents and relatives of Catherine McHugh b. apx. 1849 Ireland.  She married Hugh Shanahan b. apx. 1841 and they lived in Kilglass, Knockhall, Co. Roscommon.  I posted a previous message and was able to track down the Shanahan side of the family but got stuck on the McHugh's.  How do I go about finding out who her parents and siblings are.  I have looked up every possible site and can't connect her to anyone.  Any help please?

Have you located the marriage of Catherine and Hugh ?

If that is a civil marriage it will give both their father's names and occupations, and if it's a church marriage it may include details on father's also. Knowing this detail would help you to locate the correct family, and possibly a baptism for Catherine.

To search for Catherine's baptism in church records you would need to establish her family religion and where her family lived - i.e. parish, town or townland.

Hi Shane,
I know they were Roman Catholic but I am not sure where she was born.  I know there are alot of McHugh's in the Knockhall area but I don't know how to find the marriage certificate.  I believe they were married in 1867 and it probably was in that same area.  Where do I look for the marriage info?  Thanks.

If they married any time from 1864 then it should be registered, and once you've located the reference you could order a marriage cert.

Father  of Catherine is Owen Mc Hugh Druminmore and Father to Hugh is Hugh Shanahan Knockhall, Witnessess to the marriage were Edward Mc Cormick and Bridget Mc Glynn.  Hope this is of some help.  You should try the Civil Records Ireland which holds all civil records for all Catholic births, deaths and marriages in Ireland from 1864 up to about 1967 or so.  best of luck.
