James & Catherine Cashin
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 03:54 BST (UK) »
Quick history - James Cashin & Ann Teare married in 1838.  In 1848, James emigrated to Australia, leaving his family behind.  Wife Ann & 3 children sailed for Australia on board the Constance in 1852.  Sailing with them were James & Catherine Cashin, whose ages at that time were 55 & 53 respectively.  How do they tie in with James & Ann?  I'm having trouble picking up the thread.  Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

guess you have seen http://www.manxnotebook.com/famhist/genealgy/austlet3.htm - however there are no suitable James Cashen in 1851 manx census (nor cath cashens) - neither can I see any marriage that matches;  (Ann Cashen + family also appears to be missing from 1851 census) - is it a transcription error between names in some list ?

A friend of mine found a 1851 census record which indicated that Ann Cashin & the children were living with her widowed mother (Ann Teare).  I had a quick look on IGI for James & Catherine Cashin, both as a couple & as siblings but came up with nothing there.

found Ann with mother - Ballaclucas Andreas district 3 page 14 schedule 45 - the index entry in Brian Lawson's (www.iomfhs.im) index is I think wrong  but handwriting quite difficult - anyway there with her son James - can't see son Robert

Robert died about 1848.  Still looking for James & Catherine, whoever they are!

I doubt it.  There was a Catherine born in 1850, but she died the same year.  And there was already a living child named James born 1841 who is shown on the passenger list at his correct age.  If nothing is coming to light, I think we should leave it....... you never know, something might pop up at a later date.
Thanks for your help.

I remember having trouble with this.

If you look them up on Ancestry.com, they are on a different ship (Chaseley), and Scottish.
