1861 Mold, Arddunwent DAVIES CLOSED! With thanks.
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 21:28 BST (UK) »
I was sent the following information here on Roots chat about 4 years ago.

I don't know where the time has gone inbetween but I'm trying to pick up the threads of this line again and would appreciate a look up in the 1861 census for them.

Thomas was born in Llanbedr about 1784
Jane was born in Llandynwy in about 1785
2 daughters born in Llanychan
Harriet born about 1827
Sarah born about 1821

I am almost certain they are the family of David Davies born 1814 in Llanychan  whose history I have but any other information would help build up the wider picture.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Hiraeth,

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

All this will help a lot with filling in the family tree. I had found Harriet later on married to Thomas Davies which confused me for a while - did she really marry her father??!!  I presume all those younger ones are her children otherwise Jane was still giving birth at age 73.....  ;)

One last question please, is there a census for this area for 1841 and if so, can I access it anywhere online?  I know the 41 records are scant.

Thanks for your help,

MissM

Nice one H, I'll see If I can find anything in parish registers.

A Thomas Davies married a Harriet Davies. Mold St Marys 1849 :) could be a good start :-\

Thanks for getting in touch Paul.  I'm thrilled with the info Hiraeth has given me.  The family have often driven past the Rainbow Pub in the past! If I can just fit in a son, David Davies b c 1814 in Llanychan it will bring the whole family together.

It's that long since I looked at this line for my husband, I can't remember how I found Thomas and Jane - they're just on the tree from the last time I worked on it!  I do have a reference to Tyn y Coed farm on it if that's any help

Thanks for your offer of help.

Hi MissM

Do you have the family in 1851?  They are at the Rainbow - Thomas is listed as Inn keeper.  Harriet Davies and her husband Thomas Davies are already married, so the 1849 marriage that Paul found might well be theirs.  Sarah Davies, age 30 is still at home.  Let me know if you want complete details :)

Sadly I think this area comes under the "missing" 1841 pages - can't see anything in any case.

Hi Heather

This is all I have for 1851:

Thomas was born in Llanbedr about 1784
Jane was born in Llandynwy in about 1785
2 daughters born in Llanychan
   Harriet born about 1827
   Sarah born about 1821

So I didn't know they were in the Rainbow.  My father in law was refused a drink in there as a young lad because they thought he didn't look old enough!

David Davies (hopefully their son) was living in the High St in Mold in 1851 as a Publican with his wife Eliza and their three children.  I also have them in the 1841 census aged 27 and 26 living in the Star Inn in Llanganhafal.  Obviously pubs run in the family!

I just need proof now that David is the son of Thomas and Jane but I don't know where else to look!

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Paul and Heather

I have been going back through all my files to refresh my memory on how I found Thomas and Jane and I have discovered a cousin of my husbands had found David's christening certificate in the local records office in Rhuthin.

David was Baptised in Llanychan Church and his parents name were Thomas and Jane.  However they lived in Tyn y Coed cottage in Rhos at this time which was 1813/1814. We stopped there because we didn't know how to go on further.

I am really hoping these are the same couple in the Rainbow because my father in law stopped for a pint there many years ago every time he visited the area.  I think the fact that the girls were born in Llanychan augers well for a family connection but can't think of any way to prove it.  There would be no census that shows them all living together by the looks of it.

Anyway, thanks for all your help.  It is really appreciated.  And we are all thrilled to have a (tentative) connection to the Rainbow Inn!

Lynne

Hi Lynne

Do you have a marriage for Thomas Davies & Jane?  Looking at their ages they likely married c1806 possibly at Llandyrnog.  You could try posting a look up on the Denbighshire Lookups Board.

Do you know if your relative checked the PRs at Llanychan for any siblings of David?
