Milnthorpe Rsd on death certificate
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 21:31 BST (UK) »
I'm asking this for a friend.

She's got a death certificate, place of death Milnthorpe Rsd, cause of death - stomach cancer.

The woman on the death cert had been living in Yorkshire but, it would seem, returned home to Westmorland where she was born.  Her mother was present at the death and she (the mother) lived in Kendal. We'd have thought she would have been living with her mother but obviously not.  Was there some sort of sanatorium in Milnthorpe perhaps?

It was 1886

Are you absolutely sure it doesn't say Milnthorpe Road/Rd. We do have one of those in Kendal. :)

Hi genjen, once I'd googled (which I should have done first)  I came to that conclusion but friend said she's thought of that and is still not sure it says Road.  I haven't seen the certificate yet but I'll bet that's what it says.

Thanks.

Excellent, many thanks andycand!

I think she would have preferred an actual address but there you go!

Oh Andy, of course it does! I had to ask that question myself once - how dim of me to have forgotten the answer. ::)

I blame my age.

Sadly, that means back to square one though, doesn't it? If you could get a look at the certificate, you might be able to make more sense of it.

If memory serves me, the death was recorded by her mother (present at death) and she was living at Rose Cottage, Stramongate.  The daughter had been living in Yorkshire when her husband of one year died and then she got cancer and presumably came 'home' to be cared for.

Curiouser and curiouser!

Would it be worth checking 1881 and 1891 censuses for the mother, to see where she is. Are you able to give us any names?
