1851 Census look up please - COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 02 May 10 15:14 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am trying to find my wife's great x 3 grandfather William Swindells also spelt Swindles on the 1851 Census. He would have been aged about 13 and he was born in Manchester. On the 1861 Census, he was living in Burslem and he was a potter presser. I am sorry, I don't have any further information.
Many thanks.

I am also looking up Swindles/Swindells/Swandales family in England.  Is there any chance his father (if you found him) was from Macclesfield and had a brother Peter?

Oh, does that mean there *is a connection?!  I just stumbled into the thread last night so have no real history with it here.  ANYWAY - Peter Swindles.  He was a Chelsea pensioner and married an Irish wife.  The kiddies were born in Cheshire, Renfrewshire, and Jarrow, Durham.  He has something of an important place in my past - I wouldn't be here without him.  ;)

Peter Swindles 1808–1866
BIRTH ABT 1808 • Macclesfield, Cheshire, England
DEATH JANUARY 1866 • South Shields, Durham, England
3rd great-grandfather

Spouse & Children
Mary Gardiner / Swindles / Anderson 1830–1893

Sarah Jane Swindles / Thompson 1849–
Eliza Gardiner Swindles / Barlow / Langster 1852–1888
George Swindles 1855–1921
Mary Swindles / Wilson 1857–1911
William John Swindles 1860–1940
Margaret Swindles 1866–1934

I don't have a lot on the parents, just a bare name recording from some place or another; had to put in an end date of when they could possibly have lived but it hasn't spawned too many hints for me to examine yet.

Parents
John Swindells 1780–1880
Ann unknown / Swindles 1785–1885

Sort of.  ~1847,  Lowtherstown, Fermanagh, Ireland.  I can't see many of my records on ancestry unless I'm in a month I paid for.   ;D  I know Peter's parents are John and Ann, but I don't have any siblings for him (why I asked the other fellow to check and see if he knew his fellow's parentage) or Ann's maiden name.  I will be 'on' ancestry again in February I believe - I shelled out to get my father a DNA kit and by the time he gets it this week 'til when it's mailed back in and processed will be the first or second week of Feb. at the latest.  Very excited over it!  My mother did one this summer to help some cousins figure out more of their mother's family.
