Help finding The Butcher Family needed please
« on: Sunday 02 May 10 18:24 BST (UK) »
I have the Birth Cert of my Gr, Gr Grandmother Clara Butcher, her parents are listed as John Butcher and Emma Butcher nee Cooper, the birth was registered in Bootle Cumberland.

I have found the family in the 1901 census and also 1891 census, but i am really struggling to come up with anything on John and Emma.
I can not find a trace of them before then, nor can i find a marriage for the two of them, it really isn't helping that they dont seem to know the year that they were born!

I really would appreciate some help on this as i seem to have tried everything i know now.

Clara Butcher, born 1887, Millom Bootle Cumberland

Cheers Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Any idea what Emma's maiden name was?

So John is age 56 in 1891 and age 49 and 1901. What's his age in 1911 - is he the one shown as aged 82?

D'oh - sorry! Thanks Suey!  :-[

FreeBMD has a marriage in Ulverston district in Dec 1886 for John Butcher, 8e 1149. There's only one bride on the page but an Emma Cooper is transcribed in the same quarter with reference 8e 11*9.

Could this be Emma in 1881?

Her age seems to match the age she gives on the latest available census.

Huge age difference between them then!

IF John is the man shown as 82 in 1911 then he might have been married to a Margaret earlier - already living in Cumberland, but occupation Ag lab and similar. Let me know if you want the census details.

I have found that one, but then deleted it as i just wasn't sure which date of birth to go for, so i went with the one that lessened the age gap.
Plus at the time i found a birth for a John Butcher in Ulverston for 1852 but then i found his death a month later!!!

still struggling to find them in 1911, are they in still in Millom?
