« on: Wednesday 05 May 10 07:59 BST (UK) »
I have an Andrew Morton born possibly Ellingham c. 1771-82
Living in Chillingham Newtown, Wooler, Northumberland 1841 and Newham 1851.
included liiving with him is daughter Elizabeth (never married) born Chillingham 1823 who had a child Ann or Annie place of birth is Ellingham, but I have baptism in Eglingham.
His wife Ann died Powburn, Northumberland 1857 and he died 1866 Newcastle.

I have Elizabeth and Annie living in Newcastle in 1871.

I am desperate to find the 1861 census to see Andrew's place of birth as I have a possibility for baptism in Eglingham.

FeeFee, I see what you mean - he doesn't exactly jump to the top of the list, does he.
Do you have sight of his death certificate in 1866?  I wondered who registered his death, as he would have been fairly elderly by '61 maybe he was living with someone other than his daughter and it might be worth trying to search for them and see if that helps?

Hi Maggie

I have waded through the kids (12 of them).  One of them Stephen Dixon Morton was living in Blackett st, Newcastle.  Andrew was hit by a cart driver at the junction of Blackett St.  He arppeared to recover, but relapsed and died three weeks later and the driver was charged with furious driving.  In 1851 Andrew has daughter, Elizabeth, unmarried living with him and Ann daughter (in fact granddaughter) and I if I search for either of them I can't find them.

Hi feefee  :)

My question is the same as Maggie's:
Who actually registered the death? Is their address given?
Is an address given for Andrew Morton?

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer & Maggie

Sorry not very good at condensing info. I do not have death cert but  Andrew had a son Stephen Dixon Morton living in Blackett St, Newcastle in 1861. (.  He wan't living with him and the only child I am unable to trace in Census in 1861 is Elizabeth born Chillingham, Northumberland 1825. The daughter Elizabeth disappears during this year and appears in 1871 census living at 4 Argyle Terrace, Newcastle (within walking distance).

I have an Andrew Morton born possibly Ellingham c. 1771-82

The dates are confusing me and probably others too.  Andrew was 50 in the 1841 census and 59 on the 1851 census.  So born 1791 ish.

and he died 1866 Newcastle.

The age at death for the Andrew Morton who died in 1866 was 77, giving an approx. birth date of 1789.

Hi (been off-line with comp. problems)

Andrew was firstly married to Dorothy who died in 1813 age 31 so thought Andrew could be giving appr age, but it does seem like 1790 +/-1 year.  I can find nothing  on either Elizabeth, Annie or also a brother John for 1861 (John born Chillingham 1836).  He married in 1870 in Newcastle upon Tyne.  I have tried lots of different searches for all four and can come up with nothing.  Could it be possible that they were missed out of the census returns. Finding this infuriating as I have tried for so long to see where Andrew gave his place of birth as.  Have ordered death cert.

Thank you for the replies.

Did you get his death certificate and did it show his place of birth?

I'm interested as I maintain a database of all Northumberland and Tyneside Morton/Murton parish register entries. Check out my name!

Regards
