Just because a marriage does not come up on freeBMD/ancestry/genes (same DB) does not necessarily mean that no marriage took place.  There are instances where marriages are recorded in local parish registers but never made it to the GRO Index, or were mistranscribed with the wrong name/s etc.   For one thing, there was a large upsurge in the number of marriages taking in place in 1914/1915 because of all the men going off to war - perfect conditions for chaos :)

Also don't forget that the findings we've posted on this thread are not proven yet.  For example, William HAMLIN, Edith May's first husband, could have died a week after the marriage and she remarried - we don't know that yet.  That's why it is so important to obtain documentation and other sources to verify as much as possible.

Hi Tina

this is a great site to help you understand the legalities and how civil registration worked.

http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd.htm

On your father's birth certificate what does it say under the Father's Name column?   Who registered the birth?

Have you looked for baptism records in Fulham?
