Help deciphering Ireland Name?
« on: Sunday 16 May 10 02:55 BST (UK) »
Could anyone help me decipher the names on lines 6-9 of the attached census. They look like Gumby but I don't think that's it. They are cousins to Elizabeth Ann (Le Bagge) Foley, I'm trying to figure out where they fit in. I can't seem to find them anywhere.

John Gumby, Wife's Cousin, Married, 24, Landowner, Dublin, Ireland
Georgina Harriet Gumby, Wife's Cousin, Married, 23, Wexford, Ireland
Helen With (Wilhemina?) Gumby (sp), Wife's Cousin's Child, 10 months, Ruskey?, Co, Ireland
I have no info regarding this location so not sure where it is.

I'd be thankful for any help.

Not sure about the Hel(l)en but think the next word is 'Wilh' rather than 'with' - so that would make sense of your Wilhelmina would it.  The 'Gumby' looks right.
Certainly looks like Ruskey doesn't it.  sorry can't help more there.

You're right about the Hellen. I'm wondering if the name is Grimby?

Had another look after enlarging - think Gumby is correct.

Place - Briskey???     I don't know Ireland well enough.

Rooskey is certainly a possibility but there are several places in Ireland named Ruskey/Rusky.
What year is the census?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
