Thanks Merlin for straightening that out for me!  It had occurred to me that her death registration may have been delayed... but kinda thought that wouldnt happen!  Do you know why it might have?   Surely they didnt just forget? :)   There seems to be all sort of things weird about her death registration... Her certificate might be interesting...  I wish I could afford it right now!

I always end up wishing that wills required their authors to list their parents in them...  !

I know that James Pullar often appears in lists of shipped materials in the newspapers - he must have been importing/exporting coal.  Seems he didnt make a fortune though, as he didnt leave any property in his will - only assets equating to 75 pounds...
Scotland to Illabo - Hamilton,
Scotland to Melbourne - Pullar,
London to Melbourne - Allison,
Cornwall to Maldon - Wearne,
Yorkshire? to Melbourne - Joseph Ralph Smith and Jessie Gibson,
England - Clissold, Brighton,
Boxsell, Bond

The will was made in 1860 and there is no mention of any children by name.

Judith

Actually the children are named on page 7  8)

I just realised - sorry, not the sharpest tonight - my mother gave me images of that headstone!  Its too big to post at the moment - so I will edit tomorrow and put it up then.  At least we have final confirmation of death date (via confusion)!

She also gave me this fantastic photograph of 'Catharine Pullar' (who had a university education apparently) - but she couldnt remember if she was Fred or James' sister.  I need to look into that further.

Scotland to Illabo - Hamilton,
Scotland to Melbourne - Pullar,
London to Melbourne - Allison,
Cornwall to Maldon - Wearne,
Yorkshire? to Melbourne - Joseph Ralph Smith and Jessie Gibson,
England - Clissold, Brighton,
Boxsell, Bond

Catherine is their daughter  :)

I'll send the list of their children shortly...

I bet the headstone is where you got her DOD from in the first place before the spanner was thrown into the works to try & sort it out against the 1915 registration ;)

Sorry about the size of the image - not sure how to downsize quickly.

thanks for the details of the plot details Merlin.  I might check with MGC to see if anyone else was buried there since without a plaque?  I've recently found that in another branch... it can be revealing.

And yes, your right.  That must have been where I got the death details from before I started on my recent crusade to document ething...   the error of my ways!

Childrens names at birth are
James b. 1859
Mary Blanch and Ann Crawford b. 1861
Elizabeth Whyte b. 1863
Alice Ada 1868 (mother is Gertrude)
Frederick 1870
Cath Whyte b. 1873
James b. 1875
Henry William b. 1877

You could start with the possibility that Whyte and Crawford are family names - maybe mothers names of Rachel and James?
