 Gortinanima Thanks

I will search that area to see if I can find him and his wife and any family. He died at a young age so I'm thinking it might be war related.

familyroutes Thanks!
I will check out that website.

Here's the link for the general registration office
http://www.groireland.ie/fees.htm
You can get a photocopy for €4 as you don't need a search...just quote the vol. no 1 and page number 233 from the FamilySearch site
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#givenName=john&deathPlaceLoc1=Antrim%2C%20Ireland&deathYear=1896&searchType=close&deathPlaceId=8003241&surname=downie&p=recordResults
The death cert should give you the cause of death

A bit confused as to what sort of information you are hoping to find.

Irish death certificates do not list parents, spouse, children, birthdate or place. Not sure why you think his death might have been 'war related'- was there a military connection? The death certificate will, however, list cause of death.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
