Hi guys

I can add to the summary ...just tell me what to add.

I have spent hours again looking for Old Lady Ski****r. I have trawled through Islington in 1841 ..to no avail...maybe she lived elsewhere then, after all NB writes about her 5-6 years after the 1841 census.

No sign of Ann Thomas.  :-\

grrrrrrrrrrrr ...these people are driving me nuts!

don't get too desperate yet....he may drop a few more clues.  We have another 6 months to go!!!

I'm hoping to find out a little more about his younger life.  I would really like to know who Mr Ballingal was, and how he thought he could write such a letter.  I wonder if Mary Brycson had any other siblings other than John...quite a gap between them.

NB is a curious fellow.  He write certain intimate details down, but really, we don't know HIM very well do we?

One comment though, I found quite telling, was that he was NOT impressed with the pomp of Queen Victoria, which kind of made me feel rather warm to him.

There's a James Ballingall living in Hereford Street St Marylebone in 1841 aged about 20 - a piano maker. A long shot - if John Bryceson was one of the Bryceson family of organ makers perhaps the Ballingall family knew the Brycesons? Piano/organ ... similar businesses?

The Bunyan connection, if there is one, must be through John Bunyan's daughter who married Mr Brown.

Yes, I found the pianoforte maker, James...b,c1821 but was sure that was James St?  Funny thing is, his neighbour was a jeweller.

I am also curious (I know, it killed the cat! ;D) as to how NB knew all these birthdays?

Probably totally irrelevant, but:

There was an old lady called Bethel STIRRICKER (75) enumerated in 1841, lodging with a Mary FOX.

Unfortunately they were hundreds of miles away in Ryton, Malton, Yorkshire (and both enumerated as Yorkshire-born)...

 ;D ;D ;D .. this made me laugh
