Henry Mcquillan & Margaret Williamson
« on: Thursday 20 May 10 14:42 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am having trouble tracking down birth dates/certificates for Henry Mcquillan and Margaret Williamson
They had 4 children
Elizabeth (my GG Gandmother)– Born 1866 – Birth certificate says mother as Margaret Williamson but her death certificate says Margaret Dickie
Henry - Born 1874 – Birth Certificate says Margaret Dickie
John – Born 1875 – Birth certificate says Margaret Dickie
Mary Ann – Born 1877 – Birth certificate says Margaret Williamson
They were all born in Greenock Renfrew Scotland

On all there birth certificates says Henry & Margaret were married 26.06.1865 West Parish Greenock but cant seem to find the marriage certificate
I have been able to get death certificates for both of them
Margaret died 02.01.1889 age 46 years (putting her birth date about 1843) parents William Williamson & Lydia Donaldson?
Henry died 09.09.1927 age 84years (putting his birth date about 1843) parents James Mcquillan & Rose Horry?

And does it mean she was married before Henry– I cannot find a marriage for dickie either

any help would be great
Thanks

Hi,

There is an extracted marriage entry on the IGI:

Margaret Dickie to Henry McQuill  (it seems to be missing the 'an' at the end)
26 JUN 1865   Middle Or New Parish, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland

Regards,
Mo

Hi Dragon83
I have been having a look around the Inverclyde BMD's
there are not many McQuillan's on there,
http://www.inverclyde.gov.uk/GetAsset.aspx?id=fAA1ADcAMwAxAHwAfABGAGEAbABzAGUAfAB8ADAAfAA1
Margarets death is there
also on SP had a look for Baptisms and the only one I can see that fits
is a Henry McQuillan christened in St Mary's 1874-1875
if this is the right Henry it is possible that the sponsors may be relatives
have you found them on any of the censuses
in Greenock

Hi Mo & Elaine
Thanks for replying

Mo: Thats interesting that the IGI Entry is Mcquill because on henrys death certificate his fathers name is James Mcquill (missing the an but i thought it had just faded or something) but on all his for childrens birth certificates has Mcquillan... Now i am confused. Could they have changed the name or could be just a mistake forgot to put the an at the end?

Elaine: Henry Mcquillan christened in 1874-1875 is henry & margarets son who was born 1874.
I have just found a census 1881, Henry Mcquillan, margaret mcquillan, Elizabeth, Mary Ann & John (but no henry? he would have been about 5 or 6??) and it says Henry & Margaret were born in Ireland....yay a breakthough!

Do you know what is the best site for BDM in Ireland?
Thanks
Dragon83

Hi Dragon83
I am hopeless with Irish records but
as they were both born before registration began it may be difficult to
find them without knowing which county and parish they came from
but I am sure there will be some people on here who will be able to advise you
on that
good luck

Going back to the first post here-
They had 4 children
Elizabeth (my GG Gandmother)– Born 1866 – Birth certificate says mother as Margaret Williamson but her death certificate says Margaret Dickie
Henry - Born 1874 – Birth Certificate says Margaret Dickie
John – Born 1875 – Birth certificate says Margaret Dickie
Mary Ann – Born 1877 – Birth certificate says Margaret Williamson
They were all born in Greenock Renfrew Scotland

I.G.I. also lists 4 more children-
Margaret McQuillan born 13 Jan.1868 Greenock- mother Margaret Williamson
James McQuillan born 30 Nov.1869 Greenock- mother Margaret Williamson
Rosanna McQuillan born 13 May 1871 Greenock- mother Margaret Dickie
George McQuillan born 24 Jan.1874 Greenock- mother Margaret Dickie

Putting the 2 lists together it seems as though George and Henry were born in 1874 and John in 1875 so you'd need to double-check birthdates to see if there could be twin here-
1866 Elizabeth
1868 Margaret
1869 James
1871 Rosanna
1874 George
1874 Henry
1875 John
1877 Mary Ann
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks aghadowey
this is great - i wondered if there where more siblings because of the gap between Elizabeth and the other 3.
I just wasnt sure how/where to look
And i have the birth certificate for Henry B 24.01.1874 - so george and henry are twins!!
Thanks
