Hi Mark,
Do you have the marriage cert? If not you will need it for fathers name. I am not convinced James and Mary were his parents. There are certainly 2 Charles CHICK's appearing in the census both claiming a birth in Milverton.
1861 provides your Charles listed as aged 32 b Milverton a coachman with Mary Jane 25 b Ireland and son John Bernard aged 2. They are in Weston Super Mare.
I also see Charles CHICK aged 31 b Milverton a farm Lab and his wife Mary and three children living in Huish Episcopi (oldest child 7 so a perfect match for the 1853 marriage.)
Moving on to 1871 I see your Charles and family in Edgbaston (aged 43 - a gardener) The other family are still in Huish (He is aged 41)
Dropping back to 1851 we have Charles CHICK aged 24 b Milverton a servant in Stogumber. We also have Charles CHICK aged 21 a farmyard Lab living in Milverton with his parents James and Mary.
As Charles CHICK = Mary TUCKER in Milverton in 1853 I am inclined to think this is the son of James and Mary
1841 we have James and Mary with family including son Charles aged 10 in Milverton. There is a 15 year old servant in Kingston may be the second one.
Looking at the Milverton site there is another Charles. Seems a little early given the census records after marriage for your Charles, but, he is a bit younger than his wife so may have dropped a few years. He is the only other one I am spotting in Milverton.
Charles CHEECK 31 Mar 1823 mother Maria (base Born father WESTLAKE.) Looks like Maria may have married John BARNES in 1828. She was of Halse. There is a John Barnes and his children in 1841 in Halse, looks like Maria may have died by then. Maria BARNS buried at Halse 11 Feb 1840 aged 35 years. Maria CHICK was baptised 8 Sep 1805 Halse parents Robert and Mary (born 18 Aug 1805)
Much more information on these family
