Hi Kieran,

I looked at the library at the Nottingham Evening Post [which for that date was the most popular and well used newspaper in Nottingham] I could find no notice of death for Robert Marshall.

For your information - I searched from the 1/2/1961 - 9/2/11.

I also looked at the news items in the papers for these dates, just incase he died in an unusual way i.e. murder, road crash, accident etc - but nothing at all.

Sorry not to be able to give you good news! [that was an accidental pun by the way!!  ::) ]

Hi Lainie3961,

Thanks again for all your help it is a pity that nothing turned up.  He is just proving hard to find like my grandfathers two sisters that went to America and no one can find and trace of them.

Some people are just so hard to find.

Thanks for all your help

Kieran

I hope to be visiting the Archives in the next couple of weeks. Would you like me to look on Ancestry for you while I am there? [free access]

Dont know whether anything will turn up - but Ancestry covers American records.

Have you had a free trial on Ancestry? I have so it wont let me do it again [long memory!]

If you post his birth date + those of his sisters on here - and where they were born - and their parents - I could have a look on FindMyPast for you?

Hi lainie3961,

Thanks for your help.  My grandfathers two sisters of my dads side were called:
Parents were Patrick McKernan and Anne O'Neill born in Drumderg, Draperstown, Magherafelt, Co Derry and went to America.
Mary McKernan - 07 May 1877
Annie McKernan - 14 June 1883

My great grandfather of my mums side

Robert John Marshall born in Feb 1884 and died Feb 1961 born to William Marshall and Martha Thom of Gortliea, Upper Cumber, Claudy, Co Derry.  He had one sister who I can't find except in the census called Maudie/ Maud Marshall.

Does find my past cover irish records for Londonderry/Derry etc

Thanks for all your help and if you can search while you are have Ancestry

Kieran

Hi Kieran,

You say that Robert Marshall was born in Ireland? Do you know when he came over to Nottingham with his parents and sister?

Did Mary and Annie McKernan emigrate from Ireland to America?

No - FindMyPast doesnt cover Irish records - and I dont have access to Ancestry at home - I will have to wait until I visit the Archives to have a look, because I can access Ancestry free from there. Have you tried a free trial of Ancestry?

Hi Lainie3961,

Thanks for all your help.  Don't think Robert John went across with anyone and he probably went across in the 30's or 40's as his sister in buried in Ireland.  He was already married and left the wife and children back home.

Yes Mary and Annie emigrated to America after 1901 as they are in the Northern Ireland census.  It is thought that Mary became a nun.  I found her in the 1900 census for Brooklyn but then she was back home again in 1901.

After that it is a cold trace and can't seem to get anywhere with them.  Annie is believe to have married O'halloran but I can't get anywhere with that.?

Thanks for all your help hopefully one day I will get to the bottom of these three.

Regards

Kieran
