Am I right with marriage?
« on: Friday 28 May 10 01:08 BST (UK) »
Just need someone to double check a marriage for me.
Henry Tew born abt 1844 Warwickshire, lived in Leicester all his life but married in Northampton  March qtr 1870 to a Mary Ann Tingle.
Is this the correct Henry Tew or another Henry?
Looked at the 1881 census but it states this Henry was born in Northampton.

Cheers

The Henry born Northamptonshire which you have in 1881 is there in 1871 with wife Mary Ann also has his mother-in-law living with them. Her name is Lucy Hailes.
RG10/1483/71/29.
So unless your Mary Ann was married before it doesn't look like this is your couple.

Actually I have just looked at marriages 1865 to 1871 for a Henry Tew and the one you have is the only one to show. So it may be that Mary Ann's mother was a Tingle and married a Hailes OR Henry was married previously and it is his first wife's mother.  ::)

No, can't find a marriage for a Tingle and Hailes.
I have followed this Henry and Mary Ann to the 1891 census (they are not on the 1901) and there are no children with them through '71, '81', 91'.  So are you looking for a direct descendant? If so it can't be this man. :D

Henry is a brother of my gg grandfather.  And I have not found any other reference for a marriage apart from this one.

There was indeed another Henry Tew in Northampton, but he always showed his middle name of Benjamin.

There are also a number of births on free bmd regarding Tew for Nothampton at this time,  a Mary Ann, Ellen and Joseph all family names that have been carried down (apart from Mary Ann which is clearly her mothers name).

Strange how none of those names show on those census

I think in this case it all boils down to getting a marriage certificate.

From freebmd.

Warren Tingle dies in 1869 aged 32.

Therefore if Mary Ann is a widow then you have the right one.
