Canal Boat Families
« on: Saturday 29 May 10 15:37 BST (UK) »
Hi all

Am new to this site - still finding out how it works!

I am looking for info on Diggory & Nixon canal boatmen from Toll End, Tipton.

I am connected to quite  a few boat families, particularly the Humphries, but I seem to be hitting a dead end with the Diggory's.

Many thanks

Julie

Hi,

Have a look at this website:-

http://boatmen.wix.com/miners updated link 2019

If you click on families there is both a Humphries and Diggorys section but the Diggorys are being updated so you can't access the information yet.  It would be worth contacting the website owner though.

In the photograph section there is a William Diggory.

I think he has had some problems with the website so is rebuilding at the moment.

Thomas Brown.  If anyone can help I'll be very surprised but also very pleased! Not only was my ancestor a boatman but he was named Brown and married a Smith! Thomas Brown married Dinah Smith in 1803, probably around the Birmingham area. I know about their descendants, but nothing about  their previous families.

Hi

I have hit a brick wall with the boat people at the same time.  Many of them at that time worked in the coal industry one way or another and tranferred to the canals when they were built to move the coal around.
