Anyone got anything on the Glendennings?  Looking for an Irish surgeon called Saumel 1830-70?

Any suggestions?

Until the earlier censuses are name-indexed; the I'd suggest trawling through births, marriages, deaths for that surname to see where in the country they are concentrated.

It should give you something to go on. Also, as he is a medical man, he may be in post office directories. www.historicaldirectories.org. You may even be lucky enough to get an address from that particular site.

I Put the Glendenning + Ireland on the search engine, and recieved quite a few results.
this one is interesting background information on the name:

http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/ClendennenEhlers/ClendennenHistory.html
and  http://members.aol.com/ckng4roots/ged2html/g0000031.htm#I1840
has Irish Glendenning's [might be worth emailing the owner]

also, genforum have a Glendenning message board.

Saumel...is that an error or his correct name?

you may be interested to look at Alex Glendinnings home page which can be located within the Channel Islands sections here.

He is a Jersey researcher and there is a section on his site called " was your ancestor a doctor ?"

Let me know if you have any results .

If you cannot locate it I will e mail it to you privately if you reply with details.
