EDWARDS David 1841 Wales census
« on: Friday 04 June 10 04:22 BST (UK) »
Hello all

I am searching a David EDWARDS born 1832 in Montgomeryshire, son of William EDWARDS. On the 1861 and 1871 census his place of birth starts with a K (I think) but is difficult to decipher. Many thanks

Bruce

Hello and thankyou Sylvia.

Do you have any other information on David Edwards and his family from the 1841 census?

How did you find Trefeglwys?

Regards

Bruce

Hello Bruce and welcome to Rootschat  :)

I'm not sure that he was born Trefeglwys . Could you give more details of the 1871 and 1861, please.

This is the closest that I can find on the 1841:

Burgedin, Guilsfield
HO107/1441/ 4/16/ 12

Edwards
Wm, 39, carpenter
Sarah, 30
Wm, 10
David, 8
Sarah,7
Thos,5
Elijah, 4
Hannah,1

All but William, snr, born county

I have found a baptism on 19 August 1832 for this  David in Penrhos. Parents - William (wheelwright) and Sarah

Penrhos is  a few miles north of Burgedin near Llanymynech

Hello Gadget

In the 1861 census he was 28 years old, a carpenter/joiner and was born in Kevancayd????? difficult to read, in Montgomeryshire.

In the 1871 census he was born in Snerry????? difficult to read, in Montgomeryshire.

On what I am fairly sure is his marriage certificate to a Mary PITT in 1850 his father is a William EDWARDS, carpenter.

Thanks Bruce

Hi again

Where abouts was he living in 1861 and 1871 - having difficulty finding one married to a Mary in Montgomeryshire  - have you got the citations (RG9, RG10, etc)

There was one married to an Elizabeth but not a carpenter.

This is the one that's born Trefeglwys (1861) or Llanidloes (1871) that I think is wrong.

I'm having the same problem as you!  I get:

1861 - Kevancayd
1871 -Sneny (could it be Kerry)

I'm trying to find him on later censuses - on the 1851 he's in Willenhall and just born Montgomeryshire, which doesn't help.  Given that he's down as a wheelwright, it looks like the 1841 family seems correct.

I'll see if I can work the places out from maps, etc.

I think the 1871 says Sarny - today is Sarnau - and is just to the NW of Burgedin. I'm still working on the 1861 one but I think he's the one from 1841 and the baptism.
