Marriage question 1820
« on: Monday 07 June 10 12:20 BST (UK) »

Would a marriage record in 1820 have the groom's date/place of birth or his father's name on it?

IGI has the following marriage:

John Moule/Mole & Mary Duffie at Kilmarnock 14 Feb 1820

I'm trying to find where John came from.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Di

Hi Di,

Unfortunately it would be very unusual for the bride or groom's age to be mentioned on an OPR. Their fathers' names (and occupations) are sometimes noted, but this depended on the individual parish. Their parish of residence was usually included but unfortunately doesn't 100% confirm where they were born. :(

I got a copy of John and Mary's entry. John is just described as soldier, while Mary was a resident in Kilmarnock. No other details I'm afraid.

Oh gosh Hume - thanks a million.

That answers the question as to ages or parents names very succinctly

Shame there's not further information but I shall keep searching.

Your help is much appreciated

Thanks

Di,

Are they the family in Fulford, Yorkshire in 1841? Mary, 35, with children Mary, Elizabeth, Joshua and Ann.

If so, could this be Mary in 1851 living with a Moule relation? There is a discrepancy in birthplaces between Norwich (as per IGI) and here, where it's noted Scotland though. :-\

Address: 18 Hill Street, Knightsbridge, Middlesex
Jemima E. Moule, head, unm., 60, proprietor of houses, b. London
Mary Moule, niece, unm., 18, -, b. Scotland
Emily Jordan, serv., unm., 26, gen. serv., b. Painswick, Gloucestershire

Yes Hume, I believe that's the right family in Yorkshire on the 1841.

John reputedly died in May 1840 but wasn't with the family on the census.

I understand Mary jnr married a Mr Perry at some time (not found the marriage rec) but the 1851 census looks like it's worth following - particularly as she's with her Moule Aunt.

Thanks for that - a line of enquiry I had overlooked as I thought that Mary was born in Ireland when her father was stationed there.
