Carolyn.......

Joseph Hill, enlisted in The Royal Irish Rifles, at Belfast on 16 12 1897......

His next of Kin were given as his brothers...

William , James and Peter of Old Bank Cottages, Queensferry, Flint ( I have them on the 1881/1891 census , His mother in 1901 was running a lodging house )

He married HANNAH HILL 10 7 1907 at the Parish Church , Bebbington . ( Very near Port Sunlight ) No children were recorded as being born, before he was discharged, after 12 years , 0n 15 12 1909

This may help you find him, no luck with Maggie as yet.

Maria Hill / head / widow / age 33 / born Northhop, Flintshire
Peter Hill / son / age 17 / collier / born Hawarden
James Hill / son / age 15 / potters assistant / born Hawarden
JOSEPH HILL / son / age 13 / potters assistant / born Hawarden
William Hill / son / age 11 / scholar / born Hawarden

I have been unable to find Joseph on the 1911 census, as yet, and I am wondering if he was at sea. His occupation when he joined The Army, was Sailor.....

Hi Thank you so much for todays information

The other son Thomas in 1911 is my Grandfather

I see you found another sister Martha again I know nothing of her

My mother can remember William so I know of his two marriages and daughter
Peter died in 1888 and as far as I know did not marry someone in the family died when struck by lightening in the fields so that could have been him
She remembers Joseph and his sons but cant remember their names as she was quite young

It would be great to find Josephs family his sons may have carried the name on my grandad only had daughters and so did his brother James

Thanks again Carolyn

Continued

I have found a death registration for Peter Hill, registered 1899 at Chester.(He was still alive in 1891, so could not have died 1888 )

Cannot be certain about Maggie / Margaret, as there are so many.

Martha Hill was a 17 year old Domestic servant, at the home of Thomas and Sophie Linekar
14 Drummond Road, Hoylake cum West Kirby, Cheshire.

Martha married John Molyneux later that year. They settled at Pentre, Hawarden , and had three sons. John in 1903, Samuel in 1905, and Norman in 1908.

Hope this helps

Carolyn......

Is there any way, that your mum has got things mixed up a bit ?

I am sure that the Army Service records, for Joseph are the correct ones and that he married Hannah Hill in 1907. I have searched , searched and searched again, and cannot find this couple in the last census......

I have , however, found a death registration for a Joseph Hill, born 1878, died 1910, Registered at Wirral. This is the registration district for Port Sunlight......

Will PM you
