Hi

Could this be who you are looking for?

1891 Census  at 40, Albert Street, Bristol.

Fred Cole, Head, Married, Male, Age 23, Born about 1868, Occupation: Coach Body Builder, Born in Bristol
Nellie Cole, Wife, Married, Female, Age 22, Born about 1869, Born: Bristol.

Occupation fits, as does Nellie, which is a pet name for Ellen.

Take the Al off Alfred and you have Fred. Coole can easily be mistaken as Cole. It certainly looks likely.

I still cannot find them on the 1901 census anywhere.

Thanks Coomds,  Could well be.   I do not subscribe to FindMyPast or ancestry at present, use free access at the library so will do another search on my next visit Thursday.  I'll search for a Nellie Coole.

I,ve searched FreeBMD, but would not the surname be spelt correctly by the turn of the centuary when registered.  Know surnames get altered on the census.  I have found Coole been spelt as Coole/Cole/Cool/Coolley/and on the 1851 census my Ancestors 's surname was spelt Cools, on the original you can see its Coole poor translation.

Thanks again,

I shall have another look for you on the 1901 census and get back to you. They must be somewhere. I am sure the 1891 census entry is your Alfred and Ellen.

Thanks Coombes for trying.  I've been searching for this family for years and found nothing, it was a shot in the dark.

What about Ellen S. Coole married in 1919 in Bristol (to George Elson)? Could be a remarriage for her?
There's then an Ellen S. Elson d. in Shrewsbury in 1939 aged 70 (and a George died there in 1941 aged 64).

1911 census also shows an Ellen Coole living in    Bristol aged 40 (as far as I can tell from the free index, listed as married but not living with anybody else with the same surname).

Oooh that is something to throw into the pot. It may be they separated and she remarried either bigamously or they divorced. Helina says Alfred died in 1940.
