Terence Keating mystery
« on: Sunday 13 June 10 02:05 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with my Terence KEATING mystery?

He was born ca 1839 in Dublin Ireland, emigrated to Australia and was last sighted in Albury NSW (ca 1868, I think - his name appears on land deeds then). He was still alive in 1876 when his father died (mentioned on his death certificate but isn't mentioned in the obituary). I can't find a marriage or death for him in Australia or NZ

I stumbled upon a record on Ancestry in the US Mortality Schedules. This Terence Keating was born in Ireland about 1839, married, and died in Dec 1880 in Union New Jersey.

Sounds like a good fit. But I can't find him (or his wife/family) in the 1880 US census on the LDS site.

Can anyone help?

Hi dettori28

Thanks for the feedback. I just realised the LDS pilot program has New Jersey deaths and found Terrance Keating died Dec 1880, Elizabeth, Union, New Jersey, aged 40, occupation labourer, both parents born Ireland (which fits)

But I still can't find him in the 1880 census. If he died in December you would think he would be there.

I can't find a marriage either.

On that Union,NJ death record it says the record is "For The Year Ending MAY 31 1880" so Terence actually died in DEC 1879.  That is why u don't find him in the 1880 US census.  Do u know his wife's name?

I found a Mary (at least I Think it says Mary) Keating who died in Union in Jan of 1880 at age 38 of Pnumonia and she was born in Canada w/father born in Ire and mother born in Canada.  Maybe this is the Mary wife of Terence.  I can't make out if she was (m) or not, the record is hard to read.  It is on the same death record Page a few names below Terence, at Ancestry.  Maybe u can read the name and if she was (m).  It said Terence Was (m) and if She died in Jan after he died in Dec then it Should say Widowed for Her.
