Thomas John Cole
« on: Thursday 17 June 10 06:57 BST (UK) »
I am researching Thomas John Cole, son of Charles and Mary maiden name unknown.
He was born sometime between 1843 and 1848. He came to Victoria Australia prior to 1867 and settled in Castlemaine, where he married had a large family and died there as well.

His marriage and death certificates give conflicting information as to exactly when and where he was born. One certificate states born London and the other Poplar. Each gives a different birth year.
I know that he had a brother who came to Castlemaine for a visit.

I am looking for help in London and Poplar district to solve this, would like baptism or birth of Thomas and details about his parents Charles and Mary.
Any help or advice would be very greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,
When Thomas married in 1867 his occupation was a butcher, and that is what he did all his life.
His father I have no idea. Father - Charles mother - Mary maiden name unknown.

Ray the info that you found with Charles being born in 1821 can you tell me what that was, a census???

I have found three possible Charles Cole and even Coles in the area.
Charles who married Mary Atkin and lived next to his in laws for several census returns.
Another one had three children baptised or living in Limehouse.

There are several Thomas Cole born in the area from that time period. The marriage which you would assume he gave the correct age was 22, means born in 1845, birth place London.

His death certificate (info given by his son) states he was born in Poplar.

So I am slightly confused. Any help I would love.

Sorry I don't know Thomas's brother's name.

I do know that Thomas had nine children one of them was called Frederick Septimus who died young and he named another child Frederick Septimus Leopold. So maybe the Fred comes down the line.

(I added the census =1841= to the earlier post - in case someone else reads it)

So Thomas was a butcher with 9 children. (no jokes or puns please!)
Got any dates with the names?
Who were born Eng and who Aus?

Fred Septimus sounds like his seventh child
and confusingly the eighth/ninth!?

I just found 1851 census Poplar Union workhouse

Maybe this is my Thomas.
Cannot find the family as a whole on 1841 census.
