There is a Gospel Hall on Drummond Road, I wonder if this is on the site of Henry's church?

That looks about the right size for the site of a typical "tin"church we still have one locally Could well be. There is a great description of a community building such a "tempory" church in one of Fred Secombe's books he wanted a Church in a hurry to serve a new post war housing estate I'll ask the Bournemouth library service if they have any photos etc

Many thanks I am so lucky there is no shortage of information about him I wonder if he continued to preach while running the boarding house the adverts don't stress his Christian ethics do they.

Henry Ebben does not appear in the Clergy List for 1897 :-\

No sign of him at either Oxford or Cambridge.

Many thanks for that Nell I don't think he could have been at either Oxford or Cambridge as in 1881 he was in Hackney "Student of Theology" so he must have been at a London college but I was not aware they could study for the church anywhere other than Oxbridge in those days. I know Countess Selina Huntingdon had a college near Brecon (the evangelical priests around here under the patronage of Lady Dunraven all took turn in preaching at that college and accompanying Countess Selena on mission trips and chapel openings). So did he train through her connexion but then he would not have been ordained into the Cof E most strange and very interesting

A number of Theological Colleges were established in the nineteenth century. For example Bishop Otter College, Chichester was founded in 1839, and in the following years similar theological colleges were founded in a number of cathedral cities.

Was there one in London Stan or was he considered still a student post grad? The degree being just the first part of the training as it were? He was 27 in 1881 so should have graduated by then.
