Hoey Louth - Kilsaran/ Castlebellingham
« on: Friday 18 June 10 19:14 BST (UK) »
Hi

I've been very slowly trying to get a picture of where the Hoey branch of my family started out in Ireland.

John Joseph (or Joihn James), was born Dublin 1827 approx.  He was a saddler and his father was Patrick a farmer.  Most of the Hoey clan who came to Lancashire were saddlers, shoemakers, horse dealers and so on - all things leather and horses.

As I look at the group together I'm pretty sure though it's not finally proven that they came from the Castlebellingham townlands.

I've tried to Google for them, but don't seem to get many pictures of old buildings etc.  Also, I'm wondering where the best access to the local RC records would be.

Are there any of these parishes with records online?

Also, does anybody have any Hoeys in the area in their family who I could swap info with?
Or have any other ideas to help pin them down?

I seem so near and yet so far!

Thank you for reading.

Best wishes

PS  :)

I also wondered whether the chapels and farms on these townlands still exist, as I know a large number of people moved away.

I know quite a lot of Hoeys went to America but don't have any links yet.

I'm going to have another look with what I've found out recently.

The IFHF pay-website has some RC parish records for county Louth... see : www.irish-roots.ie

I'm not sure what parish Castlebellingham is in but their list of sources does mentioned Kilsaran (see http://irish-roots.ie/louth.asp)

see the Irish Times ancestor website for an map County Louth RC Parishes (click on the parishes for details of dates available)

Most of these RC records are available in the National library in Dublin.

just noticed the year you mentioned - 1827...  quite a number of the RC records for rural areas do not begin until 1830s or later and very few RC parishes will have records before 1800,

Hi Shane

Thank you again!

Just did a quick search on the library link you gave me and the detailed register dates.

I see what you mean about the dates, but looking at that I might just be in with a chance.  I have seen quite a number from Kilsaran but I need to see the others really, son with no way of getting there, I'm going to go into registering on that site and take it from there.

Thank you very much!

Best wishes

Hi Shane

Thank you again.

Not had much time to look at this site, but the map's brilliant.  Looks like Kilsarran Parish for Castlebellingham area is right next to Ardee Parish which I have two links to now.

Thank you again.

I will put the Kilsarran entries I already have, with the Ardee entries.

Hi

Thank you very much!  What a wonderful gesture!

I'm going to go through all the dates and names - nearly all family names but therewere cousins with the same names.

Even if they're not the exact people I'd love to see any of the photo's if that's all right with you!

I'll send you a pm as well.

Thank you so much.

Best wishes

Hello,

I have been promising to start the family tree for years now and I feel that, I may lose my most helpful sources, through death if I don't get started soon.

I am also tracing the Hoey family in Louth.

I came accross the Hoey Gravestones in Swords and I recognise some of them.

My Granfather whose gravestone features in the above mentioned gravestones died before I was born, but I do know that his family (he wasn't born then, although my Great Grandmother might have been pregnant with him) was in Castlebellingham for the 1901 census.

I would be interested in sharing any Hoey information to help each other.

If you need any more information on the Swords Gravestones, I can help as I know some of them.

Kind Regards
