Michael FERRITER and Ann QUIRK
« on: Saturday 19 June 10 15:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for more info on the above two people who were from Tralee.

They were married on 5 March 1878 and had 15 children that I know of.

I can't find the birth of this particular Michael Ferriter.  There are three possible ones to choose from.

I have found the birth of Ann Quirk on 8 Oct 1859, and I know her parents were Jeremiah Quirk and Helen (Ellen) Callaghan.  Ellen's father was James Callaghan.  No idea of Ellen's birth date or who her mother was.

On the 1901 census, Jeremiah Quirk (Ann's husband) is listed as a widower.  He is living in Dawsons Lane, Tralee.  I can't find Ann's death anywhere.  Her last child is listed as being born in November 1900, so presumably she died between this date and the date of the census in 1901.

Thank you in advance for any help that I receive.

It's a bit confusing. Title, and message, says Michael Ferriter married 1878 to Ann Quirk. Ann was born 1859 and her parents Jeremiah Quirk and Ellen/Helen Callaghan. Howeer, next part says "On the 1901 census, Jeremiah Quirk (Ann's husband) is listed as a widower.  He is living in Dawsons Lane, Tralee.  I can't find Ann's death anywhere.  Her last child is listed as being born in November 1900, so presumably she died between this date and the date of the census in 1901."
Should that line read Michael Ferriter (Ann's husband)...?

In the 1911 Census Annie Ferriter aged 54 is living in House 64 Broguemakers Tralee Urban. Her husband Michael (and father probably) must have died since 1901 as she is listed as a widow with 5 children born and 5 living.

see Link http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Tralee_Urban__part_of_/Broguemaker_s/291586/

Hope this is of use

Yep, I've done it again.  Sorry.

It doesn't matter how many times I read through these threads to make sure all the details are correct with what info I already have, I still manage to get it wrong.

Michael Ferriter did marry Ann Quirk in 1878 and I can't find either of their deaths.

Jeremiah Quirk was born about 1841 in Tralee and Ellen Callaghan was born in about 1845, also in Tralee.

Jeremiah did marry Helen Callaghan and I don't know when either of them died.

So what I'm trying to find is:

Birth of Michael Ferriter
Death of Michael Ferriter between 1901 and 1911.

Deaths of Jeremiah Quirk and Ellen Quirk (nee Callaghan).

Again I'm sorry for the confusion.  There are so many Ferriters that my head is spinning trying to sort out who belongs to what generation, but I'm getting there.

Death of Michael Ferriter between 1901 and 1911.
Most likely one in civil index is Michael Ferriter age 53 (so born c1856) death July/Sept.1909 Tralee registration district volume 5 page 339.

Deaths of Jeremiah Quirk and Ellen Quirk (nee Callaghan).
Possibly Jeremiah Quirke age 79 (so born c1829) death Apr./June 1908 Tralee registration district volume 5 page 379

Added: here's the link to Jeremiah Quirke, etc. in 1901 census:

The 2 possible deaths were found in the civil registration index- I thought the link was posted earlier in this thread but here it is now and apologies for not giving it before.
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails&c=fs%3A1408347

Brief explanation of how I found the records-
1) put Michael Ferriter in search box
2) when results came up selected Kerry (place) and 1900-1909 + 1910-1919 (date)
30 then checked the entries that were left looking for a Michael Ferriter old enough to be married in 1878 and that one happened to be in Tralee district which was the correct area.

Only one possible death for Ann  Ferriter given in Irish civil registration index between 1911 and 1959
Quarter -Jan Mar 1930
Tralee registration district
Vol 5 page 389
However it may not be the correct Ann Ferriter as approximate birth is 1867
