I'd start with trying for one birth certs of the children born after 1864 to establish Ellen's maiden name, and give you a more exact location for the family. This would also help establish a parish - which will be required to find the marriage if the family were Catholic.

The index details mentioned by Dara for his birth in the other thread look promising and might be worth a try..

edit : I've just spotted that the other post has John's year of birth as b1868 and here you have it as 1865 ?

Hello,

the ones I mention which are on the pilot site are, I think, baptism records becuase they name the parents (Shane will confirm, I hope).
The children's names match to some of yours which are in the censuses so, you could apply for the birth records to Irish GRo- I gave you the link earlier.
John and Margaret married in Lanchester district:
Free BMD 1887 Lanchester vol 10a pg 372
Here is English GRO- http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

The Keogans are from Monaghan according to census.

to try to answer Heywoods question about the records on familysearch...

there are different types of records on familysearch with the additional details (parents on births etc)in different collections and databases. Many of the records in the newly added BMD collections (see the links in the introduction topic) are extracted from the civil registers, so will only cover those years - note these are not complete for the years stated . There are other records that give parents etc and some of these are extracted church records and some may be based on submitted records like the old IGI system on familysearch...

Hi Shane,

thanks for that. I am bothered when I see the new records with parents names. On the 'old' system - it was clear that it was submitted or extracted, is there a way to distinguish that with the newer records?

thanks
heywood
