Josiah Gatward aged 70 is on the 1901 census in Prittlewell, St Albans with wife Eliza.

So it's his son born c.1855 that you are looking for ?

Hello
I have found the same information regarding Josiah Gatward´s death in Brazil in 1892.
Do you have more information about his life in Bahia?

Have you got his death certificate already?

Here is Josiah’s “óbito” in Cachoeira, Bahia.

I found the óbito record in the familysearch site yesterday, by accident.
After running a quick search on line I came across your post.
The cemetery still exists in Cachoeira, but it's in a poor state and many tombstones are destroyed, the name Gatward´s can't be found in the  ones remaining.
I´ve been researching this cemetery for years and  I am interested in contacting people with the same interest or at least with some link to the place.
There are very few images recording its appearance in the past and Gatward´s "fancy grave" you've mentioned in a previous post sounds like great  news.

I understand that Josiah was in Brazil helping build the railway. He worked on the railways in England before he departed to Bahia Brazil from Southampton on 24 Apr 1890. I am not sure if his family were with him in Brazil but they are reported to have returned to England after his death.
