Yes, I assumed that, but checked with BDM and they confirmed it.

I found the map of section M with all the named plots.  Where I have written 'River' is not actually the river - but it was to remind me which way round the map went.  There is at least a 3 - 4 plot margin at the edge of the map - but Emma was not marked on - the librarian was as confused as I was about that.  But I thought the more info you have the more in focus it would become....

Emailing now....

Sorry if you get that twice, it seemed to glitch on the first attempt...

Thanks for the map, Kiwi Girl.

It's a mystery that plot 1088 does not appear...

That's family history for you >:(

I'm new to RootsChat but found this thread while trying to find out about William and Eliza (nee Thompson) STANLEY. I believe they were living in the Gisborne area when their son Frederick William Stanley was born c 1863.

The Poverty Bay massacre may have prompted the family to move to Australia as son, Frederick married in Melbourne in 1888

Does the Makaraka cemetery have on-line listings? and does NZ have a pioneer register?

I've traipsed around that cemetery myself, searching for headstones!  Sooooo many gaps.

My mother tells me the burying of the old headstones was done by a work gang simply to 'tidy up' the cemetery.  I don't think there was any thought of protecting them.

Seems incomprehensible now!
