>>> 1871 Census Goes Live for Scotland <<<
« on: Tuesday 29 March 05 14:04 BST (UK) »
All,

In case you have missed this http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk has now indexed and made available the Scottish 1871 census.

It is pay per view and costs £6 for 30 credits.  Viewing a search costs 1 credit and viewing the census page costs 5 credits.

As this census is not currently available other than on fiche it isn't a bad price.

They already have 1881, 91 and 1901 online along with all the BMD detailled here...

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,24468.0.html

So when your granny says don't spend it all on one census, smile sweetly - you will!

All the best,
Pam

Hi All,

For those of you wishing to search the 1871 census for Dunfermline - don't hold your breath! Dunfermline and the Shipping Returns aren't on yet.

All the Best,

Alison

From the Scotlandpeople website...

For those of you that have noticed that Dunfermline indexes have been missing from 1871, they have now been added
.

They are also restricting the searches for now as it is really busy.  You can only search 2 census at the same time - if you use the site you'll know what I mean.

Cheers,
Pam

ScotlandsPeople strikes yet again!

If anyone is looking for the family of Archibald MELROSE and Margaret THOM, they are in Muckhart Perthshire mistranscribed under the name MCHOSE!
Archibald 45, Margaret 38, Jessie 14, Margaret 12, Robert 10 and Jemima 2.

I came across them in a search for M*C*HOSE (in respect to my one name study) and was taken aback - MCHOSE being a spelling which is otherwise on SP only in 4 records in the 1700s.

There are 15 entries under MCHOSE in the 1871 census.

I've sorted out the above 6 - only 9 to go!
