1901 census
« on: Tuesday 22 June 10 15:13 BST (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to take a look in the 1901 census for me.

William Helm Soulsby b1862 in Whitby (down as Wm Helm in the 1901) - I would be interested to find out who is living with him.  In the 1911 he is married 18 years but there is no wife with him, only his future mother-in-law as housekeeper (he married Isabel Slater in 1930 - my great great aunt) and I found a marriage in 1892 to either Hannah or Mary and would like to find out if she is in the 1901 with him.

Thanks in anticipation
Joanna

*** There is also a Sidney Helm Soulsby b1900 in Whitby but not in the  same household schedule.
Tulip, Button, Slater, Clay, Sleeman, Laverick, Whordley, Rowell.

Thanks Anna

Don't know if you saw the amendment I made to my notice.  Would you be able to see who Sidney Helm Soulsby b1900 is living with in Whitby.

Thanks Ceeoh

Is that William is lodging with a family called Slater?  In which case what are their names.  Slater is the name of my family who he later married into.

Hi Joanna

I didn't go further and look for Slater but will do so - I took it to mean that is where he lodged but at the time of the census was in Haggersgate.

Cannot find Sidney Helm Soulsby born 1900, on 1901 census, the only one I could find on free bmd was a Sidney Soulsby born Hexham Sept quarter 1901.

Do you have any first names for the Slater family 1901?

I've looked at a copy I have of Elizabeth Slater in 1901 census and she is living at 1 Millers Yard, Haggersgate but can't see anywhere that William Soulsby is on that page - she was his future mother-in-law but not until 1930, so not sure what the names of the Slaters would be.

I looked on ancestry (don't have full access) he is down as Sydney Helen Soulsby.

Hi Joanna

There are several Slater families listed living in Whitby 1901, however, the only Slater family in Millers Yard are as follows:

2 Miller's Yard, Whitby
Elizabeth Slater,  head of household,  widow,  age 44
Arthur Slater,  son,  age 16,  grocer's errand boy
Elizabeth H Slater,  daughter,  age 12
Nelly Slater,  daughter,  age 10

All born Whitby.

Wm Helm Slater seems to be all by himself at 8 Haggersgate (perhaps working?)

I don't know Whitby very well but it would seem that Miller's Yard was within Haggersgate, so the Slaters were living in Miller's Yard (in Haggersgate) and William Soulsby was at number 8 Haggersgate (possibly working as suggested earlier).

No sign of a Sidney/Sydney Soulsby 1901
